Meet Sydney

Sydney is my friend’s niece, 16 years old and already a very talented photographer. Her sense of composition is really incredible – she’s a natural. So when I was asked to talk to her about photography for an independent study she is doing for school I was more than happy to help. When I met Sydney and her mom yesterday, I had no idea how much she knew about photography. Turns out she knows a lot already. Not only does she have that natural sense of composition, she is also comfortable with the technical aspects of the camera. She shoots in manual mode and has a good understanding of aperture settings, shutter speed, and light. We talked for 2 hours, and she even had a list of prepared questions for me. I helped her set up a blog so she can start posting photos and captions for her class. We ended the afternoon walking around town, taking pictures, and talking more about photography. Sydney is off to Italy in a couple of weeks as part of her independent study. She’ll be documenting the trip on her blog, and I will link to it here when it’s ready for viewing. I’m looking forward to seeing what she captures.
