Artprize: so much to see
So much to see so little time.
Alex Schweder La’s exhibit is my best in show. “Made from projections and mechanically induced precipitation which serve as a “screen” for a cyclical loop of video projections.” You have to see it to understand it.
This is so good on so many levels. Mark Wentzel nails it and proves the UICA hosted some of the best work at ArtPrize.
Not sure this qualifies as Art. Performance art, maybe. It drew a crowd and it did transform the space around it, so maybe it counts.
My 2nd day of ArtPrize walking around the streets of Grand Rapids with tens of thousands of people. This is “Blue Chaos” by Paul Flickinger. The sun came out just at the right time.
Our first day walking around ArtPrize. The boys voted for this sculpture made of scrap metal. I love the picture because the artist, Lou Rodriquez, is watching the boys check it out. Very cool.
There is nothing fun about flying the redeye back from the west coast. The view is nice though.
The cycling industry knows how to have fun at a tradeshow. Gary Erickson (the guy holding the trumpet) is the owner of Clif Bar. He also plays in a band so why not jam while at the show. Not sure whose kid is playing the drums but he was natural.
Interbike may be all about bikes but it is in Las Vegas – the land of make believe. A lot may be fake but the food isn’t. This was great spot for lunch.
Interbike is THE big industry trade show. It’s where a lot of the big cycling companies release their 2011 products. For those in the cycling world it’s a little bit of heaven. A shiny, carbon and titanium heaven.
This week’s ‘cross race was in Highland park. Neither Dan K., Geoff or I raced, but Geoff’s brother did, and we did our best to ‘help’ him up the hill.
The boys lost today 7-0, but they were such evenly matched teams, and they improved so much, it was difficult to be disappointed in the score.
The boys will love this. This is one big grasshopper and he wanted in the house.
The West Michigan Cyclocross season has started. Not exactly the cold and grey cross weather the Europeans like but it was a great way to spend an afternoon.
Cam told me I was behind on posting pictures. So he asked if he could help and take some pics for me. This is what he shot – pretty nice
We were told green peppers turn red if you wait long enough. We waited and since red is what we wanted red is what we got. Wow.
I didn’t see this picture from the recycling center. For as ugly as the subject is it’s really nice.
Another shot from Cameron while I stopped by a clients. I went inside he stayed out and took pictures. I think it’s a sign that he is going to be a good photographer
One is off to middle school for 6th grade while the other is off to 3rd grade. Easy to tell by the way the wear their backpacks. However Cam is walking like he’s going to college.
I’ve seen that look before. It happens right before….zzzzzzzzz.
We spent the afternoon at the Meijer Gardens and Sculpture Park. It’s such a great place to walk around and it seems every picture you take is perfect. This is just plain funny.
The boys and I met our neighbor for a tour of the new single stream recycling center. It was a fun tour, and Steve clearly likes his job. I’m pretty sure he drives all the trucks at least once a day. I know I would.
Grand Haven is always packed during the summer. Today, not so much, and clearly a sign that September 1st is the start of fall.
