Metal Art Sculpture
I can’t get enough of my metal art rooster. The local artist also makes other farm animals and giant flowers. By next summer my backyard is going to have a whole new look.

Tex is shedding a lot lately. It’s been hot, I can’t blame him.
Not only are they growing, they taste great. However, we have so many now we could sell at the farmers market. Next year we may plant half as many.
Cam has this shirt with all the names of his elementary graduating class on it. While on a walk I noted to Steph that it’s 2010 and pointed at his shirt. Considering how fast the first 11 years went, the next 7 are going to fly by.
What’s a neighborhood block party without a visit from the fire department? No matter how many times the kids have listened to the fire department presentation they always love it. The adults do too.
During the day the kids called their game of tag “Purple Cow,” but at night it’s called “Bloody Murder.” The kids have fun no matter what time of day, and they play themselves to the point of exhaustion. No wonder they love camping and don’t mind sleeping on the ground. They are so tired, they don’t even notice how uncomfortable it is.
Steph and I are pretty lucky to live in a neighborhood with such great people.
Steph turned 40 today. We celebrated by going camping with 6 other families. Great way to spend a birthday weekend.
With the kids away at Grandma’s, I’ve been shooting a lot of portraits lately. This is my friend, neighbor and fellow photographer, Terri Vruggink, making her 2nd appearance on the site. The last time she was featured, she’d recently returned from Haiti while shooting for a non-profit. However, the earthquake hit while she was there and the story changed. Her work from that experience will be on display at Fountain Street Church during this year’s ArtPrize. Don’t miss it.
I was shooting detail shots of a truck, and I was about to clean the windshield when a grasshopper jumped on the glass. I think he’s making fun of me.
These are my friends, Tom and Ellie, who are recently engaged. They asked if I’d take their picture so they’d have an official engagement photo. You see, Tom and Ellie ride and race bikes as much as I do, so their pictures always feature some form of Lycra. This was a nice change.
I was shooting portraits today and I ended up at Founders after. (surprise) I had a lot of nice shots, but this is a favorite and it wasn’t even planned.
With all the rain we’ve been getting, it grows very well.
Unlike last year when hardly anything grew, this year’s garden is much more encouraging.
The best part of living in a small town where everything is within walking distance is sending the boys to the library. It’s only a mile a way, and they love the walk. Then they walk through town to stop at Mary Anne’s and buy candy for the walk back. The best part is the 3 hours of silence that I have in the house while they are gone.
Blueberry Muffins with Orange-Sugar Glaze. What more can I say?
Steph and the boys went blueberry picking. There are going to be a lot of blueberry food pictures coming in the next few days.
I’m not a fan of the Ripstik but Cam loves it – that is until he crashes.
Ever since living in Colorado this is the vehicle I want to drive. I make sure to walk by it quickly since it’s not polite to stare.
Luke can tell a story. He’s very animated, and has great comedic timing. Most of the time he has his head in the clouds, but really I think he’s working on his stand-up routine.
We’ve been playing baseball or t-ball since April. It’s safe to say I’m happy the season is over.
Karl is a professional cyclist who rides for the United Healthcare team out of California. He’s originally from Tasmania but now lives in Grand Rapids. Usually Grand Rapids doesn’t draw athletes here because of the brutal winter. He’s a good guy and now considered a local. This race (Grand Cycling Classic) is probably the only race he doesn’t have to travel to short of riding his bike to the start.
It was awesome with everything fresh from the garden. Really, really good.
